Graphite and Transparent Watercolor
Intermediate levelLimited to 12 students
Cacti are botanical subjects that present exquisite geometry, texture and perspective challenges! Join Marjorie Leggitt in this intermediate level art course as she guides you to create a colorful composition of a specimen of your choice.
Discover how cacti conform to basic forms and mathematical patterns ubiquitous in the plant world. Working with live specimens, follow along as you hone observation and artistic skills to develop a perspective drawing. Learn about the principles of cast shadows from your own clay model then add them to your drawing for spatial dimension.
Demos and exercises help you to create a color palette, specific to your cacti. Using a "color to value" method, have fun applying wet washes and more controlled layering techniques to build rich luminous colors. Define details and punch values using graphite for the final touches!
Come away with a new appreciation for these challenging subjects and a beautiful graphite and watercolor cactus portrait.
