TO THE POINT Mini Drawing Workshop
PERSPECTIVE: CIRCLES in PERSPECTIVE-FLOWERS (Part 1)
Online ZOOM Art Workshop
Tuesday/Thursday, May 3 & 5, 2022
9am to 10:30pm MST
Advanced Beginner to Advanced level
Limited to 12 students
Carefully look at a tulip, sunflower, daffodil, daisy, lily... soon you'll discover that all these flowers are based on the geometric shape, CIRCLE.
CIRCLES are ubiquitous in the floral world. And you say, "What? Circles are flat and flowers are 3 dimensional!" You're correct....but when you draw flowers on a 2D surface, the flowers ARE actually flat and it's the artist's challenge to draw them so they look 3 dimensional.
In this class, we focus on the changes that take place when we place circle-based flowers in perspective. First, observe and practice "seeing" and "measuring" circles in space. Then, working with a live plant, learn to draw flowers as simple "antenna structures". Turn lines into ellipses as you flesh out and develop shapes. Use expressive line to suggest 3-dimensional floral forms. Fill a sketchbook page with contour drawings of a circle-based flower in various angles of perspective.
• Session 1: Discussion, demo and in-class exercises offer solutions to the drawing challenge
• In advance of Session 2, students work on a drawing challenge to practice new skills and email a photo before Session 2
• Session 2: Group critique, questions, demo and in-class exercises reinforce new skills and solutions to create a final line drawing.
